Heath Lane Academy Post 16 aims to support, inspire and develop academic excellence for all.

Young people today are unlikely to have just one Career Pathway for life. It is important that alongside their studies they are encouraged and guided to become active citizens, have aspirational goals and develop transferable skills for life.

Remaining in education after GCSE examinations ensures young people have greater opportunities to gain employment in interesting occupations. The courses on offer at HLA are designed to help students develop their independent learning, interpersonal skills and assist them in becoming young people who are able to take their next steps in today’s demanding economic environment.

Academic achievement is not our only focus, as Post-16 students are also offered extra-curricular opportunities. These include sport, drama, Youth Action Group membership, mentoring, ‘The EDGE’ (a non-formal qualification preparing for employment), work experience, Sutton trust opportunities and volunteering to name just a few.

As part of the Midlands Academy Trust we are able to offer and support students with vocational pathways and apprenticeships with links to the local employment market, including MIRA.

We are a growing Post 16 and this has allowed for a high level of individual support. Students’ receive individual guidance for their next steps, whether this is a university application or an apprenticeship. We have had almost 50% unconditional University offers last year and this year a student has an offer of a place at Cambridge.

I believe that Heath Lane Academy is a place where post-16 students are given the freedom to develop whilst being fully supported by dedicated staff. As the most improved Academy in Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland, your son or daughter’s educational career is safe in our hands.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Post 16 community.
