The aim of the Humanities and Social Science department is to broaden students’ understanding of the world around them. To engage them in meaningful and informed debate over controversial and often misunderstood elements of not only our own society but those around the world.
Our aim is to encourage our students to be curious and insightful about their heritage and become involved with the shaping of our future. To understand the mistakes of the past and make choices that will make the world a better place for generations to come.
Along with the knowledge and understanding students develop through the various subject areas and wide basis of topics covered therein, they will develop essential life skills, thus preparing them for adulthood. We believe that the skills we develop and practice through all of the Humanities and Social Science subjects, will be invaluable to their future. From being able to determine which bank account would be the best for them, to articulating to their future employer why they are the best person for the job.
Our aim is, that when students leave us they will be confident to question the generally accepted and challenge the inequalities they will witness and even personally encounter at times through their life. Through the spread of topics we study, we hope to spark in each student a curiosity and passion that will go beyond the classroom and their school day, but continue to take them on a path of lifelong learning.
